Itinerary

DAY 1: Cusco to Pona Lodge

Kick off your adventure early! We’ll pick you up at 6:00 AM from your hotel in Cusco with our private transport. Travel through the stunning Andean mountains and visit the beautiful Hucarpay Lake, rich in Andean flora and fauna. Next, we stop by Huancarani to see the Ninamarka Pre-Inca Cemetery from the Lupaca culture. Then, head to Paucartambo, known as Cusco’s folkloric capital, where tradition meets colonial charm. By midday, we enter the Manu National Park, one of South America’s most protected natural areas. Journey through the Cloud Forest and arrive at Pona Lodge around 5:00 PM.

  • Optional visit to the Tangara Garden for amazing bird photos

Wake up to the clear waters of the Alto Madre de Dios River. After an early start at 3:30 AM, we head to Atalaya Port. On the way, visit a Hummingbird Garden to see various hummingbirds, monkeys, and the king vulture. Then, enjoy a relaxing hour at a thermal spring before moving to your next lodge for the night.

Today, visit a Parrot Sanctuary to see different parrots and macaws. Travel along the Alto Madre de Dios River to the Manu River, stopping at the Limonal Ranger Station. Enjoy a river cruise where you might spot caimans, turtles, and even a jaguar! After lunch by the river, arrive at Safari Lodge near Cocha Salvador. Spend the afternoon exploring the pristine jungle and visit Cocha Otorongo to watch giant otters and more wildlife. Optional night walk to see nocturnal creatures.

Early morning, take a catamaran on Cocha Salvador to spot a variety of birds and mammals like herons, eagles, and otters. Return to the lodge and hike to the Macaw Sanctuary. Watch macaws in a colorful display as they feast on clay. Explore jungle trails and learn about the ecosystem from our eco-guide. Stay overnight at Casa Matsiguenka Lodge.

  • Night Walk to see nocturnal animals

Morning walk or another visit to the lakes to hear the birds sing. After lunch, take a boat downstream to Boca Manu, then upstream to the Tapir Sanctuary. Spend the night in a jungle hideout to catch a glimpse of tapirs at night.

  • Visit the Tapir Sanctuary and stay overnight in the jungle

Continue your river journey upstream and transfer to a car at Atalaya back to Pona Lodge for your final night in the jungle.

Travel back to Cusco, arriving around 3:00 PM. Your amazing adventure ends here!
